Building a garden shed is almost as exciting as building a new home, with the bonus of not having to make endless decisions about tiles, colour schemes, taps, shower fittings- the full catastrophe. Nonetheless, there are a few important things you need to take into consideration when building the shed of your dreams.

First, you’ll want to think about what the shed’s primary purpose will be. Is it simply for storing outdoor equipment- lawnmowers, garden tools, the inflatable kiddie pool? If so, a small, simple flat roof structure will suffice. They’re easily portable and ideal for areas in which space is limited. If, on the other hand, you intend to become part of the furniture of your shed, you’ll want plenty of headroom. A gable roofed shed will provide all the work and head space you need, with the added benefit of a ridge beam for strength and stability. Gable truss sheds are similar in design to garages but lower in cost,  allowing for plentiful work and storage space.

Climate is another critical consideration. If you reside in a cyclone prone area, it’s likely you’ll face severe restrictions regarding the type of structures you’re permitted to erect in your backyard. The good news is that there’s a special model of cyclone proof shed available- completely legal in areas such as Rockhampton, Darwin, Cairns, Broome, Mackay, and Townsville- and 100 percent safe.  Even if you don’t need to take into account what’s legally allowed, but still reside in a high wind area, it’s wise to consider installing a cyclone proof shed.

Once assembled, the EasySHED finished garden shed is very water tight and this can be further re-enforced by implementing a rebate on the concrete slab. Like any outdoor structure, it is difficult to stop general bugs/flys, etc from entering the shed and we cannot guarantee (as I’m sure everyone else in the Australian shed market would say) that these bugs will not get into the shed.

The flashings  used on the shed roof also prevent water from entering the garden shed through the roof.

The channels used in our garden sheds at the top and bottom of each wall are produced using thicker grade steel than wall sheeting. The combination of these channels and screws fastened onto the garden shed wall sheeting creates a very strong structure without the need for internal framing, a designed that has been thoroughly tested to W40 wind speed ratings.

In our Garden Sheds, we use high-tensile Bluescope steel at .35mm thickness (thickest sheeting in the garden shed market) This steel comes in coils which we then process through a forming machine, the end result being a strong, ridged and sturdy sheet of metal with superior structural strength. High tensile sheeting adds greater strength and rigidity to each individual sheet used in the process of building this shed, resulting in a superior strength of the overall finished product, compared to the weakness of other garden sheds in the market which use ‘soft-formed’ sheeting.
